Red Arrows & Hot Air

Phew what a scorcher!  These last two days have been hot... wonderfully warm, summer is still here!

Yesterday we were at the lottie, spent all afternoon there, snipping, watering, lounging, reading books, eating hot dogs... oh and our old friends THE RED ARROWS gave us a fly by!

Woweee!  Such excitement.. Dan & I were completely hysterical about it, our sons on the other hand were quite non plussed!  What?  hmmm, anyway.

This weekend was the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which is held in Ashton Court Estate every August.  Our allotments are situated on the opposite hill of the valley... so sitting on the grass on our little plot we have the most awesome views of the whole thing.

First we saw two helicopters do an aerial display, Charlie thought they looked like Dragonflies dancing.  Then the Red Arrows gave us a fantastic show for about half an hour.  They zoomed at high speed right over our heads, so low I thought they would take out the tops of the trees.

Charlie said it was too noisy, Rufus thought the planes were funny... go figure!

Between shows, I weeded, cut back the couch grass which is growing madly again. Found a mammoth sized cucumber (where do these things come from? Outta nowhere!)

Dan cooked sausages on our camping stove and we enjoyed hot dogs and beer (well I had the beer!).

Then to much antcipation and conversation between the other plot holders the stars of the show..the balloons.

At 6.00pm there was a mass ascent, I counted 35 balloons in total.

You know when you've had a good day, you go home with dirty face, sweaty hair, dirt under your fingers, tired eyes and a full heart!
