Twitching at Chew Valley Lake

I have been watching AutumnWatch the past few Thursday evenings, and have been totally immersed in the wonders that this season brings.

This morning we were determined to get out and enjoy some of the colour and sunshine.  We headed off to Chew Valley Lakes for a spot of bird watching.

Armed with a delicious pasty each and Grampy's binoculars we tried our best at spotting some interesting bird life.

Rufus spotted a group of Swans diving for food and Charlie saw a Heron fly past.  We also spotted Great Crested Grebes, ducks, a Kestrel and plenty of seagulls.

During our walk around the lake's edge the autumn colour was incredible.  It feels like a magnificent year for colour, I can't remember it being so bright and golden.

The boys loved using the binoculars to spot birds and pointing out the red and yellow leaves.  We found the biggest horse chestnut tree which had leaves the size of umbrellas.  Such a brilliant sound crunching our way through back to the car park.

A great morning trying something different, not about whizzing around on balance bikes, but actually stopping and studying nature.

Who knows we may have inspired a future Chris Packham or Simon King?  (Fingers crossed!)
