a wild woodland rumpus...

So... today we celebrated my youngest boy's 5th birthday.
A group of his closest friends all gathered in the woods for a wild game of bows, arrows and Indians.
We decorated headresses, painted faces, stormed the tipi's, made bows with sticks and string, ate hot dogs and toasted marshmallows on the fire.
You can see from the photos, Rufus had a wild time... we all did.  Children and parents alike.
It was epic, I feel I have been away for a weekend at a festival - the most fun, exhausting and happy all at the same time.
As I sit here now with the smell of wood smoke in my hair - I feel absolutely blessed that my boys have such great friends and that I do too.
I think all Saturday afternoons should be like this!

  2. It looks amazing - the kind of birthday party that the boys will look back on fondly when they are older. I love the second photo with the pop of colour of the balloons and bunting. Sorry, there's an unintentional balloon pun there...!

  21. That party looks AWESOME! Great photos too. Your boy is so lucky - how ever did you get permission to use a wood? Or do you know someone with a handy piece of land? Seriously, that is the best idea ever.

    Hi Lou

What a fun party! How did you organise the logistics of setting up the party in a public space so that all was as it should be for the actual party. Did you make contact with the forestry commission first - we'd love to have a go at doing the same hence intrigued as to how you managed to pull it off so brilliantly!

    Thank you, Karen
