Camp Bestival - the 'must see' list by Rufus (5yrs)...

With only 2 days to go, excitement in this house has reached tipping point.  Shrieks of 'I can't wait to see Dick & Dom' or 'I can't wait to dress up as a (sshhh secret, you will have to wait and see!).

Rufus has been pouring over the Camp Bestival website, looking at shows and acts that he wants to see... here are his top picks - he is 5 remember!

Monster Mates with Sam Lloyd
Come and meet award-winning author and illustrator Sam Lloyd and her lovable collection of monster puppets in the Dingly Dell. Help her to 'Calm Down Boris!' and make fabulous friends with 'Wendy the Wide-Mouthed Frog'.  Shout 'Turn it Up Doris!' and don't forget to say 'Hello Dudley!' and sit on your hands when 'Scary Sid' is around.  An irresistible mix of puppets, story-telling and songs for 3-5 year olds.

Pirates Next Door
Pirates Ahoy! Calling all landlubbers and swashbuckling hearties - Capt Duddle is here! Known to his friends as Jonny, he’s the person behind the award-winning and best-selling picture books, The Pirate Cruncher and The Pirates Next Door. And he’s had a crafty hand in the Aardman film, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. Best dressed pirates welcome!

Around the world in 80 games
After the stonking success of last year’s Silly Olympics games, interactive nonsense makers Lost & Found are back to host 80 Games Around the World in their purpose built ‘arena’ next to the Castle. Scouring the globe for the silliest pastimes imaginable, they have compiled a monster list from Alaskan Dog Curling to Zimbabwean Limbo Darts!  This multi-cultural celebration of the world’s daftest games will enthuse and amuse everyone in the family.

Dingly Dell
At the heart of Camp Bestival lies our magical, woodland refuge, the Dingly Dell. Beneath the canopy of old English trees, you’ll be carried away from the rush of the festival and into the nurturing bosom of nature’s playground.  In the daytime, come celebrate Mother Earth in all her glory, with nature, craft and wilderness skills workshops and activities. Learn how to identify trees from their leaves; how to light a fire; how to make a magic wand and make beautiful creations from nature’s abundant relics.  Then gather together in the centre of the woods in the Story Den to hear tales of new and old, from storytellers and authors transporting you into their imaginative worlds.  At night, see the woods come alive with light and wonder, as the creatures of the forest awaken and the story of the Dingly Dell, Under the Dragon’s Wing, will be told as you explore. With magical fire and sculptural creations from Mechanical Menagerie and fantastical tales by Gideon Reeling, this will be a journey through the woods that will linger in your dreams… And when your wanderings are done, then shelter together again in the Story Den, for the shadow puppets are dancing and they have their own stories to share with you, deep into the night.

Face Painting Tent
Also located in the kids garden is the huge face painting tent where NamNams and her team of friendly, colourful face painters will be merrily transforming faces all weekend. From butterflies to monsters, mermaids to tigers, whatever you choose, the artists will work their magic and bring you colour, sparkle and smiles!! And with such a big team, you won't have to wait long to be transformed into whatever your desire!

Jurassic CSI
Are you a dinosaur expert? Do you know your predators from your prey?  Dorset’s Jurassic Coast Team has teamed up with YHA to offer a unique and intriguing activity where YOU are the detectives in a dinosaur version of ‘Crime Scene Investigates’!  There has been a shocking dinosaur crime and it’s up to you to study all the evidence to unravel the mystery of what has happened! Look carefully at the fossils of dinosaur footprints, make notes, check your facts and scientific evidence and present your conclusion.  Working in small groups, this is a hands-on and exciting way to engage with real life evidence of the biggest beasts ever to have walked the planet.

And so much more!!!
The boys excitement is contagious, and I haven't even thought about what I'd like to see.  I suppose just rolling along with them, getting caught up in the moment is all I need.

I still have the dreaded packing to do, there is always so much to take.  AND I am having palpitations thinking about lugging all of it from the car to the campsite - wish me luck!

There are a few weekend camping tickets still available, please look over here.
